National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) is well-known for its eminence in teachers training and has strived for excellence in trans-disciplinary pedagogy and research. As one of the 12 top universities recognized by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan, it is the only one which is distinguished in the arts and humanities.
Founded in 1922, it was first established as a teachers training institute and has been in recent years transformed into a comprehensive university. NTNU is dedicated to achieving excellence in both teaching and research by providing a multicultural and holistic educational environment for students. Today, NTNU encompasses three campuses (Main Campus, Gongguan Campus, and Linkou Campus) and consists of 9 colleges. With the Main Campus located in the hub of Taipei, NTNU not only proffers an active academic climate, but also embraces cultural diversity of Taiwan.
In the QS World University Rankings, NTNU has risen from 485th in 2013 to 331st in 2021. In the 2021 QS Rankings by subject, the Education & Training subject has ranked 28 in the world. The Chair Professors include illustrious Nobel laureates such as Gao Xingjian and Mo Yan, as well as the prominent Swedish Academy Fellow, Dr. Nils Goran David Malmqvist.
